In golf, the “Hitting Zone” is THE MOST important part of the swing. You see countless pros getting to the top of the backswing in unique ways, but almost everyone seems to look extremely similar in the hitting zone. This would classify as positions 6, 7, and 8 or halfway down, impact, and follow through.
The primary goal is to get the clubface square to the target at impact. At halfway down, you’ll notice that the hands are at about hip height with the club shaft parallel to the ground. Keeping the goal in mind, how do we achieve it from halfway down? It is a combination of rotating and getting onto our lead foot. Then, we need to make ball first contact and follow through to hip height and eventually over our lead shoulder.
One drill that I have been working on for this is being able to move through the hitting area, then stopping on the other side at position 8 (arms and hands parallel to the ground). You want to make sure that your clubface has released (closed at this point). I really think it helps control the club face by putting emphasis on at least squaring it up at impact, and even closing it sometimes if you deal with an open face at impact a lot like I do. Below are the positions I am referring to and trying to really come down through the hitting area, to stop at P8. You want to make sure you have all the checkpoints while you are practicing at P8, hips turned, forearms crossed over, toe of the club facing the sky.

That’s some good information!
